My dear friend in Christ:
As you know, throughout the calendar year of 2018, we have been celebrating the Fiftieth Anniversary of our parish. In addition to all of the usual happenings at the parish, some of the highlights of these past few months have been prefacing our celebrations with a Marian consecration, several basket raffles, Living Stations of the Cross, inviting former pastors and IUP alum back to celebrate Mass, and hosting the regional Summer Faith Experience which culminated with our parish Feast Day and Picnic. As we prepare to begin a new semester, I would like to remind you to please save the date of Saturday, October 27th for the celebration of our Anniversary Mass with Bishop Malesic at 4:00 pm followed by a reception and dinner at KCAC immediately following Mass.
This entire year gives us the opportunity to reflect on our past, celebrate the present moment and prepare for our future. It is in this latter endeavor, preparing for our future, that I write to you today. As I mentioned at Mass this past weekend, we are beginning a Sustained Offertory Program here at the parish called The Journey of Joy. The Journey of Joy is a component piece of a larger Stewardship Initiative that we are undertaking. As a reminder, Stewardship is about prayerfully acknowledging how we each have been blessed by God and how we each give back to Him via our Time, Talent and Treasure. While the parish is always in need of liturgical ministers and other volunteers for the various ministries conducted here (Time & Talent), The Journey of Joy will specifically address the Treasure aspect of Stewardship.
We are indeed a University parish. That distinction brings with it an expectation – an expectation of Campus Ministry. Although the students are certainly a large part of Campus Ministry, we also have to ask ourselves how we are ministering to their families, as well as the faculty, staff, and administration of the university. Upon honest reflection, we can do better in all of those areas; however, this mission needs to be funded. In order for us either initiate or to bring in programming and/or to possibly hire a full-time Campus Minister we need your financial support. I am therefore challenging all of us to prayerfully consider our regular financial support of the parish and, if possible, increase, and sustain the increase, in offertory giving. Additional information about this initiative will be following via direct mailing, bulletin & Mass announcements, and via social media. Thank you for your consideration of this matter. May God continue to bless us each of us on the powerful and transformative
Journey of Joy.
Sincerely in the peace of Christ,
The Reverend Alan N. Polczynski, Pastor
Saint Thomas More University Parish
